Cornerstone Church Becomes Two Churches

Today marks a very important day in the future of Cornerstone Church.

Today is the day that I am announcing that the Airdrie Campus of Cornerstone Church is being released to become its own separate church with the Foursquare Gospel Church of Canada.

In 1992, Audrey and I were sent out from The Garden, The First Foursquare Church of Calgary, to plant The Airdrie Foursquare Church.

Sixteen years later in 2008, I was asked to continue to pastor our Airdrie Church, but also to become the pastor of our Calgary Church.

In order for this to be accomplished, we believed the best thing was to join the two churches together, and under a new name, Cornerstone Church – a two campus ministry began.

We saw much reward for our labour, and it was evident that we could accomplish more by being together.

Thank you to all those who invested so much to make this happen!

In 2017, after 25 years of ministry in Airdrie, we made a significant change at our church. Instead of four pastors spread over two campuses, I released pastors Brad and Matt to have primary oversight and focus in Airdrie, while Pastor Chris and I would be focussed in Calgary, believing each congregation would benefit from campus specific pastoral ministry. This has proven to be effective.

In 2018, we were able to pay off our building in Calgary, and I announced to our church council that I believed it was time for me to resign as the Lead Pastor in Airdrie. My assignment from the Lord was complete.

The sale of the Calgary building has now made it possible for us to pay off our building in Airdrie, which is now paid in full, and release the congregation to become its own church.

Effective January 1st, 2021, Airdrie and Calgary will be separate and unique churches.

Most of the changes will occur administratively – although a very noticeable change will be that the Airdrie Church will be taking on a new name, while our Calgary Church will remain as Cornerstone Church.

Pastor Brad will be appointed by our president as the Lead Pastor of the Airdrie Church.  What a great way to start – a wonderful congregation and a paid off building.

We will continue to be in good relationship with one another, but we will be separate chartered Foursquare churches within the same unit.

As a church council, we believe this is the leading of the Lord.

May the Lord Jesus be glorified in His church, by His church, through His church, as He builds His church.

Following Jesus Together,

Pastor Barry
